Police: Bodies Of 2 Women Found Inside Cedarbrook Home By Children Coming Home From School

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say the bodies of two women were found by two juveniles inside of a home in Philadelphia’s Cedarbrook neighborhood Monday afternoon. Police say the bodies were found in a home on the 8400 block of Cedarbrook Avenue just before 3:30 p.m.

Police say there is no danger to the public. They are calling the incident a death investigation after the women were found shot and killed inside their own home.

According to police, the victims, whose ages are unknown, were found unresponsive with head wounds. Two juveniles found the women when they came home from school.

“They found two females laying on the first floor dining room kitchen area. The two females were unresponsive. They appeared to both be shot in the head and chest area,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police say both kids are children of one of the women who was shot. After the disturbing discovery, they ran back to school.

“We’re getting information that the children discovered the bodies and then went right back to school and told school employees what they discovered,” Small said.

Now police are trying to figure out exactly what happened.

“It doesn’t appear that anybody broke into the property. There was no forced entry, it does not appear to be ransacked,” Small said. “We are not ruling out the possibility of a murder-suicide.”

Police say a firearm and two spent shell casings was found next to one of the victims.

Neighbors say the women, ages 38 and 50, were a couple and moved to the block this past August and largely kept to themselves.

“You never know what a person is going through. I feel sad for the children. Now they don’t have any parents,” one neighbor said.

Police say the children, both under the age of 13, were interviewed and are now safely with other relatives.
