‘Relatively low’ threat at Pa. Farm Show after pig stricken with disease in Lancaster

A disease contracted by a female pig at a Lancaster County stable is communicable to humans but presents a “relatively low” threat, according to PennLive and LNP.
The sow — stricken with Strep zoo, a bacterial infection that affects the respiratory system, according to PetAirapy — was put down on Dec. 16. Its home, New Holland Sales Stable, is currently under quarantine.
Department of Agriculture veterinarian Kevin Brightbill wrote a letter Friday warning Pennsylvania Farm Show exhibitors about what had happened and that an investigation had been launched.
