Landslide closes Route 51 in Moon Township at least until Monday

THE DIRT ROCK TREES AND UTILITY POLES THAT SLID ON TO ROUTE 51 CLOSED OFF ONLY A QUARTER OF A MILE OF ROAD BUT A SECTION THAT CONNECTS ALLEGHENY COUNTY TO BEAVER COUNTY >> I CIRCLED AROUND THE TOWN AND I CAME UP HERE. NOW I WAS THINKING ABOUT HOW I’M GOING TO GET BACK. GIRISH BHANUSHALI LIVES ALONG PURDY ROAD- ONE END OF THE ROUTE 51 CLOSURE. HE TELLS ME HE LOST POWER FROM THE SLIDE OVERNIGHT AND THEN TRAVELED TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES TO GET TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROUTE 51 SLIDE- NEAR STOOPS FERRY ROAD. SOMETHING OFFICIALS SAY DRIVERS WILL BE DOING NOW FOR DAYS. >> IT’S A MAJOR DELAY FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE. IT’S A TRUCK ROUTE SO THEY HAVE TO DETOUR THAT. THEY CLOSED THE ROAD SO I HAD TO COME ALL THE WAY AROUND WHICH MADE ME FIVE MINUTES LATE FOR WORK. >> AND THE CLOSURE TURNS FROM A QUARTER MILE TO MORE THAN 4 MILES IF YOU’RE HEADED FROM ALLEGHENY TO BEAVER COUNTY >> NOBODY CAN GO TO THE BEAVER COUNTY BRIDGE. WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO? BROUGHT HEAD? IT’S GOING TO BE WHILE. >> AS YOU CAN SEE, CREWS REMAIN HERE TRYING TO CLEAN UP THE HILLSIDE AND MAKE SURE IT IS STABLE ENOUGH TO REOPEN.   • Take Flaugherty Run Road (Route 3089) to Brodhead Road (Route 3077)
  • Turn right onto Brodhead Road (Route 3077)
  • Make a right onto Laurel Road (Route 151)
  • Follow Laurel Road (Route 151) to Route 51 (McGovern Boulevard)
  • End detour

West of the slide

  • Same detour in the opposite direction
