When Ethan Greer left his hometown of Spring Grove to pursue a career in the culinary arts, he always knew he’d find his way back home to York County.
Taqueria El Camino is expected to open Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Dover. According to owner Greer, “El Camino” means “the path” — a fitting name considering his career has led him back north.
After graduation, Greer moved to Baltimore for culinary school and later moved to Miami Beach, where he spent time working at 5-star hotels including the Faena Hotel. Greer worked the last two years as a private yacht chef before opportunity knocked in Dover.
A former childhood friend and the owner of Amy’s Custom Cakery, Amy Bigelow, reached out to Greer about a potential restaurant space next door. “That was in August and we started construction that month, too,” Greer said.
With the relocation, Greer wants to offer more than just hand-made tortillas and a new restaurant to Dover. He wants Taqueria El Camino to be a site for inclusiveness and a mecca for local artists.
“The whole vibe is the whole culture of art,” Greer said. The restaurant features the work of 15 artists including nine painters, whose work is on display in a gallery adjacent to the kitchen.
While Greer boasts the goal is to become the best restaurant in York within a year, he acknowledges that he wants Taqueria El Camino to be a destination for both good eats and inclusiveness.
“Want to do something for everybody … [and] everybody loves tacos,” he said.
Taqueria El Camino is located at 81 W. Canal Street in Dover. The hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
