A Bedford County man serving a five- to 15-year prison sentence for rape of a child was found dead in his prison cell on Saturday, according to the state Department of Corrections.
Robert Sheetz, 39, was suspended from a vent from a sock and sheet in his cell at SCI Camp Hill, according to a DOC news release. EMS arrived at the scene to administer CPR in an attempt to resuscitate Sheetz, but to no avail — Sheetz was pronounced dead at 4:38 a.m. that morning.
Sheetz had been serving his prison sentence at SCI Camp Hill since November 2019. The official cause of death will be determined by the Cumberland County Coroner’s office.
His death is under investigation by state police. This marks the first reported death in a Pennsylvania state prison since the new year began on Jan. 1.
