37-year-old man dies after being found unresponsive at Sandcastle pool

Allegheny County police confirmed that they are involved in a death investigation after a 37-year-old man was found unresponsive at a Sandcastle Water Park pool and died at a hospital. Allegheny County police said emergency dispatchers were notified of an unresponsive man in the pool at approximately 3:21 p.m. Police said employees attempted lifesaving measures on the man until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 4:53 p.m. Police said detectives are continuing with the investigation and at this time there is no foul play suspected. According to the park, at approximately 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Sandcastle personnel were alerted to a medical situation at one of the pools. “Lifeguards and EMTs responded immediately to an adult male who had collapsed while exiting the pool. The man was treated by Sandcastle staff and Munhall EMS personnel, and then transported to a nearby hospital,” the park said in a written statement.The medical examiner has not yet identified the man or determined the cause of death.”They pulled him from the water,” said witness Kirstin Carpenter. “He was nowhere around the outside of the pool. They said he collapsed. He was in the water.””We heard screaming and we immediately went over to the edge and we looked over and we saw 6-8 people, including lifeguards, pulling this man out of the water,” said witness Kristen Metelmann.
