The name of the police officer who was involved in the shooting death of Romir Talley in Wilkinsburg in December 2019 was released on Wednesday during a council meeting. This comes nearly nine months after Talley’s death. Wilkinsburg Council President Pamela Macklin said the officer, Robert Gowans, was placed on administrative leave on Dec. 23. Wilkinsburg council said it is “unsure if he is still working today.”Macklin told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 she did not know the name of the officer until Wednesday. However, Wilkinsburg Mayor Marita Garrett said they both knew the name of the officer in December.Talley’s family has been calling for a fair investigation and the identity of the officer involved in his shooting death. The Allegheny County Police Department investigated the shooting death of Talley. Information released in December shows witnesses said that Talley fired a gun at police before they returned fire.Last week, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that the shooting remains under review.
